Homemade sage smudge sticks

Sage is one of the most sacred herbs among indigenious North American peoples. The clean burning sage is used in the energy cleansing ritual known as smudging.
To use your Sage stick, simple light the end, allow it to get hot and blow it out. Gently wave the smoking sage around your home, inside and out. As the smoke permeates your space it will cleanse the area and people or possessions in it, of shadow energies. The stick can be left to burn in an Abalone Shell or in a dish of sand. Or you may tap it out and use it later.

I trimmed my sage plant from last year to prepare for this years growth. I had 7 of these bundles shown here

Then I put about 10 twigs together to form a nice even smaller bundle. wrapped with string, trimmed top and bottom

rolled in paper to help shape it while it dries

Ill leave on this rack for about a week.

My "religious" views

Im not sure what i would be categorized as.

I believe there is an energy to life and of all life that can be tapped into and controlled by all life. http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/jill_bolte_taylor_s_powerful_stroke_of_insight.html

I think that how we do that is vastly different within one species and across different species. I believe there are different dimensions to that energy, or force. I don't believe in a humanoid being who was a creator. I do believe in evolution. I do think that Jesus was a man who lived and was a teacher, as was Mohamed, Vishnu, Joseph Smith, etc. I think all the religions through the centuries are too close in story line for any one of them to be "IT". http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/

I think religion is a crutch, a safe harbor, blinders to keep focused on the master as on a horse, that keeps us from the growth that is worth the most because it is the hardest and scariest because we are completely exposed when we are left to think for ourselves and to decided who we are instead of being told. I think there is an afterlife but I don't think it is how modern religion describes it. I believe that "energy", or life force can take many forms and may or may not live on. Modern religion and the human brain takes comfort in "knowing" but I think it is much healthier to admit that we don't "know". We don't NEED to know, it only stresses our present life with guilt, regret, and discomfort for the things we think we "should" be doing because someone taught us what we "know" to be the "truth". My guess about the afterlife is either or both of the following: 1-what i described about our energy forces living on in this form or another in this dimension or another, or not. 2-that the afterlife will be what you think it will be as in the movie What Dreams May Come.

I DO think though that each person needs to find what makes them happy, if it truly does bring them happiness and isn't hurting others or taking away their religious freedoms. I think conversion is inappropriate. we should share and respect one another views with open hearts and minds. I think we should love one another for who we are and be happy for each others found happiness.

My new hobby

I get the free appliances of of KSL in the free section and bring them to the scrap metal yard for cash. I only go local so it only costs me about $2 in gas to make about $10/appliance. Gives me and Safi something to do...keeps me away from food and her away from TV :)

Ides of March (today!)

As a lover of Shakespeare and mythology, and a 4 yr student of Latin (no wonder i love the Percy Jackson series) I thought i would inform you that it is the Ides of March today :)

The Ides of March (Latin: Idus Martias) is the name of the date 15 March in the Roman calendar. The term ides was used for the 15th day of the months of March, May, July, and October, and the 13th day of the other eight months.[1] In Roman times, the Ides of March was a festive day dedicated to the god Mars and a military parade was usually held. In modern times, the term Ides of March is best known as the date that Julius Caesar was assassinated, in 44 BC, the story of which was famously dramatized in William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar.[2]

Supi sprints on sat and sun while safi strolls

I workout HARD mon-fri so i take sat and sun off but of course the dog needs to be walked everyday so as it warms up i hook the trailer stroller to the bike and give supi the workout of her life. its tough to tire her out but by god her toungue hangs out on those bike rides :)

"mine turn!!"

Safi is a master these days at putting all her clothes on AND OFF by herself. she cant do socks and shoes quite yet but she tries. she insits on doing so many other things by herself as well such as her toilet seat and stool, pushing the chair to the sink to wash hands, turning sink water on and off, brush hair, putting her movie on and off, coat on and off, books on and off shelf, and on and on.

The funny part is today she has decided that she needs to do everything for me too!

Aesop Fable of the Week

A Man had lost his way in a wood one bitter winter's night. As he was roaming about, a Satyr came up to him, and finding that he had lost his way, promised to give him a lodging for the night, and guide him out of the forest in the morning. As he went along to the Satyr's cell, the Man raised both his hands to his mouth and kept on blowing at them. "What do you do that for?" said the Satyr.

"My hands are numb with the cold," said the Man, "and my breath warms them."

After this they arrived at the Satyr's home, and soon the Satyr put a smoking dish of porridge before him. But when the Man raised his spoon to his mouth he began blowing upon it. "And what do you do that for?" said the Satyr.

"The porridge is too hot, and my breath will cool it."

"Out you go," said the Satyr. "I will have nought to do with a man who can blow hot and cold with the same breath."

Just me and Safi

Welcome to the new site. Well, like the title of this first post says, its just me and Saf right now. Jeremy has been in CO working for over a month now. Saf and I are pictured here making Valentines cookies to send in the weekly box of baked goodies we send Jer and his family. We are so thankful in this uncertain economic time that Jeremy has a reputable family in the welding industry. Ryan also left to follow his music love. We miss his company greatly but are very glad we were able to bond with him more this last month. He truely feels like the brother I never had ;) Well, I'll keep you posted...more to come.
